We’re seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer for our Automation and Assembly Systems group who is focused on world-class technology.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative and functional engineered automation solutions that meet or exceed customer requirements
  • Estimate design hours for tool concepts, design and release of original content, and changes
  • Construct and modify CAD models per customer standards using one or more of the following applications: Inventor, AutoCAD, NX, CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, FiDES
  • Prepare layout and detail drawings of designs within defined project timelines
  • Review and study customer specifications, engineering schematics, and other data to ensure released designs meet engineering and manufacturing requirements
  • Perform engineering calculations and material selection to meet safety standards and design functionality requirements
  • Coordinate structural and/or finite element analysis to validate design functionality
  • Coordinate model and drawing development, managing teams of internal and external designers
  • Work closely with the design team to ensure optimal manufacturability, maintainability, and serviceability of the equipment
  • Understand the design release system process and release all models, drawings, instructions, and other data in formats required by internal and external customers

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Applied Science or Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent from a recognized University is preferred
  • Associate Degree or Engineering Diploma, with specialization in design/drafting from a recognized Community College, or equivalent experience (assessed by hiring manager)
  • Specialized training with certifications (if applicable) from a recognized training organization in the application of any CAD software listed above
  • Minimum 8 years of experience and demonstrated capabilities in concept design, 3D design, and 2D detailing using any CAD software listed above to design automated production systems and tooling
  • Experience in one or more of the following industries is required: automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment
  • Experience in any of the following areas of automotive manufacturing is highly preferred: body-in-white welding and assembly, closure hanging, powertrain manufacturing systems, industrial parts washers, leak test systems, final assembly, or material handling
  • General knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) concepts and their application in automated production systems designed for the automotive, aerospace, and heavy industry sectors
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, including following up on equipment throughout the entire project lifecycle (fabrication, assembly, installation, and commissioning)
  • Ability and willingness to travel to any company and customer facilities globally
  • Must be willing to work extended hours when necessary, including overtime, weekends, holidays, and night shifts as project and customer demands dictate
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with internal and external personnel
