We are seeking a Senior Buyer to join our Corporate Purchasing Group, who is focused on working with our supply base partners to ensure materials, equipment, and services are purchased at competitive prices while achieving quality and project timing requirements.

What you’ll get to do

  • Purchase materials, equipment, and services at the optimum combination of quality, price, delivery, and service, ensuring the lowest total cost of purchase is obtained
  • Identify the best sourcing opportunities and negotiate final contracts that optimize value for the organization
  • Prepare quotes, analyze, evaluate and make commercial assessments.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and take action to implement
  • Aid in the follow-up and expediting of purchases, to ensure the timely receipt of materials and services
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of market conditions, technological developments, prices, and trends regarding the assigned commodity groups
  • Maintain and develop competent suppliers, with a particular focus on the development of qualified minority-owned businesses concurrent with customer requirements.
  • Conduct supplier audits, site visits, and assessments
  • Ensure a warranty is obtained on purchased items, meeting the standards of our customers
  • Assist and provide information to the Proposal and Estimating Departments for our quotation process

What you bring

  • Post-secondary education or related experience
  •  3 or more years of experience in procurement, preferably in the machine tool/automation industry
  • Negotiation skills
  • Computer skills, ERP/SAP experience an asset
  • An understanding of required input parameters (technical and commercial) needed to achieve departmental deliverable outputs
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity, an understanding, appreciation, and respect for global cultures
  • A commitment to meet project performance and metric criteria
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • An ability to work well in a team-based, cross-functional working environment
