We are seeking a Controls Application Engineer to join our Automation and Assembly group, focused on providing world-class technology solutions to our customers, such as battery tray assembly systems, battery assembly and test, leak test equipment, industrial parts washers, and material handling automation.

What you’ll get to do

  • Prepare and perform the design of experiments, performance and validation testing for the Engineering Team, including customer requests, design improvements and field-related issues that require improvements
  • Engineering testing activities while working directly on live projects
  • Improve and develop control systems and sub-systems for automation and machine tools, including Advanced servo systems, PLC, Sensors, Robotic Integration, Industry 4.0, Vision Systems, software and hardware architecture
  • Develop new concepts, including prototype development, performance testing and final implementations
  • Assist in the processing phase to ensure that all customer requirements and specifications are met in the early stages of a program
  • Follow up through the manufacturing phases to ensure that all challenges are met to prove out the function of the intended designs
  • Troubleshooting at customer facilities when issues arise that need engineering assistance to resolve
  • Travel to USA and Mexico is highly probably
  • Prepare technical calculations, 3D CAD, FEA, and similar as required to support active projects
  • Provide technical support on projects throughout the project lifecycle
  • Review applications as a complete system, including mechanical, controls, manufacturing, operation and maintenance
  • Develop application standards, best practices, and technical documentation for projects

What you bring

  • A completed university program in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent with a strong focus on machine design, prototype development and testing
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Industrial Controls, PLCs, Industrial Robots or similar
  • Ability to read and interpret industrial electrical drawings
  • Working knowledge of industrial controls hardware and software
  • Understanding of Kinematics, Motion and Motion profiles, Motor / Servo Sizing, Gearbox selection and sizing, Servo Presses,  Control Theory and Motion of moving bodies
  • Familiarity with Automation, PLCs, Robotics, Sensing and control technologies, Vision Systems
  • Excellent team communication, time management and organizational skills
