We are seeking a Supervisor – Robot Programming to join our team in Auburn Hills, Michigan where we design, build and integrate body-in-white welding and joining production systems for the automotive and commercial truck sectors. Our flexible body shop automation systems and smart work cells help OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers bring their products to life while adapting to rapidly changing technology and consumer demands.

What you’ll get to do

Supervision

  • Assign robot programming leaders to specific projects, and review the scope of work and expectations with the leaders
  • Oversee projects on the manufacturing floor from a robot programming perspective, inclusive of safety, quality, cost and timing
  • Drive jobs to be completed on time and within budget
  • Ensure customer specs are followed
  • Assist in NCR identification and resolution
  • Assist in establishing and implementing continuous improvement ideas
  • Assist in employee and contractor evaluations
  • Attend/support customer and internal buy-offs
  • Collaborate with manager to fulfill manpower requirements for installation, launch, and service needs
  • Assist in training, fostering and growing a healthy working relationship with the robotics department

Programming

  • Perform robotic programming (for robots such as Fanuc, ABB, Kawasaki, and Motoman), including the following:
    • Commissioning
    • Robotic dress
    • Robotic safety setup
  • Develop and implement standard practices and provide detailed documentation upon project completion
  • Ensure that robot programs adhere to the standards and needs of the customer and Valiant TMS
  • Introduce programming improvements in robotic systems that are consistent with customer changes or manufacturing needs
  • Implement application requirements related to robotic welding, joining, sealing and material handling functions
  • Identify spot welding locations as defined by weld data sheets and other technical data
  • De-bug, tryout and verify I/O signals and interference zones in the system
  • Maintain frequent communication with mechanical and controls design personnel, as well as with manufacturing personnel, throughout the entire programming, dressing and tryout phases of installation
  • Provide complete documentation of the robotic procedure

What you bring

  • A proven ability to work well within a team-based work environment, prioritizing plans of action to accomplish objectives
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in a Controls Engineering or Robotics related field of study and/or a minimum of 5 years experience in robotics debug in a machine tool build environment
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in both leading people and in coordinating with other departments
  • Understanding of the function of automated systems including all internal and external components
  • Strong communication skills – ability to communicate within a team-based work environment, and interact well with fellow employees and external customers
  • Ability and willingness to travel to customer and Valiant TMS work locations in North America and other global locations, if required
