We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our team in Auburn Hills, Michigan where we design, build and integrate body-in-white welding and joining production systems for the automotive and commercial truck sectors. Our flexible body shop automation systems and smart work cells help OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers bring their products to life while adapting to rapidly changing technology and consumer demands.

What you’ll get to do

  • Construct and modify CAD models per customer requirements and standards using one or more of the following systems: Catia, NX, FIDES, AutoCAD, Inventor, and Solidworks. Estimate design hours for tool concept to design and release for original content as well as changes
  • Prepare layouts and detail drawings of design as required to meet project timelines. Develop creative and innovative engineered solutions that meet or exceed customer requirements
  • Review and study customer specifications, engineering schematics, and other data in order to determine the design procedures needed to generate and release digital and/or hardcopy printouts related to engineering and manufacturing requirements
  • Perform necessary engineering calculations and proper material selection to satisfy the required design functionality. Coordinate any structural and/or finite element analysis that needs to be performed for assessing the functionality of the tools designed
  • Coordinate the development of part drawings, including CAD drawings, through other designers, internal or outsourced, to comprehensively manage the complete design of the tools that are assigned
  • Work collaboratively with the engineering team on design changes to improve manufacturability, maintainability, and serviceability of equipment
  • Be knowledgeable of the release systems and procedures, and release all necessary detail drawings in digital and/or hardcopy formats per requirements of internal and external customers (for example, release to purchasing for make/buy decision, input for controls design and engineering, and documents to support field installation and service personnel, direct digital transfers to customer systems)

What you bring

  • A proven ability to work well within a team-based work environment, prioritizing plans of action to accomplish objectives
  • A Bachelor of Applied Science or Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent from a  recognized University is preferred or an Associate Degree/Engineering Diploma
  • Specialized training with certifications where applicable from recognized training organizations, in the use of CAD systems and software, such as Catia, NX, FIDES, AutoCAD, Inventor, Solidworks
  • A proven ability to prioritize plans of action to accomplish objectives
  • Experience in designing, installing, commissioning, servicing, and troubleshooting pneumatic, mechanical and electronic automated equipment in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally to customer locations
