We seek a Commodity Buyer to join our Corporate Purchasing Group, which analyzes the current market and overall economic conditions to ensure commodities are purchased at competitive prices while achieving quality and project timing requirements.

What you’ll get to do

  • Identify and drive opportunities that lead to improved value and cost savings
  • Develop market and supply chain intelligence to reduce purchasing costs when negotiating contracts in volatile pricing environments
  • Identify best sourcing opportunities, negotiate final contracts and issue purchase orders that provide the best value (quality, price, delivery) for the organization
  • Develop strategic supplier relationships
  • Develop and maintain both depth and breadth of knowledge related to the assigned commodity group(s), utilizing a proven knowledge of market conditions, technological developments, price and trends
  • Contribute to key corporate financial metrics, project budgets, pipeline velocity and quality
  • Develop and foster cross-functional collaboration and teamwork within the organization, with groups such as Engineering, Manufacturing, Accounting, Proposal/Estimating, Planning, Customs/Shipping, and Information Technology
  • Support development of a global sourcing strategy, including driving best cost country (BCC) benchmarking activities and development of BCC sourcing synergies across group companies
  • Prepare presentations/materials to support monthly reporting of regional and global value improvements, cost savings, and spend
  • Specific performance reporting and information uploading on end-customer portals
  • Support Advanced Processing and Proposal/Estimating teams in bid preparations

What you bring

  • Post-secondary education or related experience
  • 3 or more years of experience in purchasing
  • Negotiation skills
  • Computer skills; ERP/SAP user experience are assets
  • An understanding of required input parameters (technical and commercial) needed to achieve departmental deliverable outputs
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity; an understanding, appreciation, and respect of global cultures
  • A commitment to meet project performance and metric criteria
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • An ability to work well in a team-based, cross-functional working environment
